What does a trainee do at Lewis Brownlee?

Being an accountant is more than just providing a regulatory compliance service. We endeavour to support our clients so that they can spend their time doing what they enjoy most.
Working within a medium sized accountancy practice you will get exposure to a variety of clients that work in numerous industries, this is accompanied by working alongside specialists in accountancy, audit, taxation and financial advisory.
Some of your day to day duties would include:  Bookkeeping; VAT return preparations; Statutory accounts preparation for Sole Traders, Partnerships & Limited companies; Corporation tax return preparation; Preparation of management accounts; Audit; Preparation of returns to HMRC to report taxable benefits; Preparation of personal tax returns.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals who have a keen interest in accounting and finance with the drive to learn whilst working in a career focused role.  If you’re looking to join us as a trainee then no experience is needed as we provide full training and support – Although any practical experience you do have is great!

 

Strong candidates will have the following skills: Ability to work individually and as part of a team; Strong mental arithmetic; Good verbal & written communication skills; Ability to prioritise workload in order to meet internal and external deadlines; Computer literate.

Current Positions Available

Practice Administrator

To provide support and assistance to the Business Services Group and the Tax department within the Practice. The successful candidate will  have excellent interpersonal skills in order to effectively build and maintain relationships within the team, across all the departments of the firm and with clients.

Business Services Group - Client Relationship Manager

Reporting directly to department managers and directors. The Client Relationship Managers are integral to the accounts department, and are responsible for completing the work required by clients including, but not limited to, the preparation of accounts, VAT returns, tax returns for Limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.

Audit Manager

The person who takes on this role will be leading an accounts and audit department, focusing on the significant portfolio of audit assignments.  Audit assignments are from a wide range of industries and varying sizes from the very small voluntary audits to large multi-national complex group arrangements.

Audit and Accounts Senior - Client Relationship Manager

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the accounts and audit department, focusing on the significant portfolio of audit assignments.  Audit assignments are from a wide range of industries and varying sizes from the very small voluntary audits to large multi-national complex group arrangements. 

Accounts Assistant

Have you left school and you’re not sure if you have the right experience? We aren’t looking for specific criteria, if you can show that you have educational or practical evidence of mathematical ability or experience then please get in touch. The role will involve assisting in bookkeeping, management accounting and VAT Returns.

Tax Assistant

The Tax Assistant will be an integral member of the tax department, and will be responsible for completing the work required by clients and other members of the team including, but not limited to, assisting with the preparation of tax returns for individual, trusts and partnerships.

Bookkeeper

Can you create accurate accounts within Xero, provide excellent attention to detail and work off your own initiative? You may be the right fit! This role will involve client bookkeeping using Xero and Sage, the preparation of VAT returns and management accounts plus more.
