What does a trainee do at Lewis Brownlee?

Being an accountant is more than just providing a regulatory compliance service. We endeavour to support our clients so that they can spend their time doing what they enjoy most.
Working within a medium sized accountancy practice you will get exposure to a variety of clients that work in numerous industries, this is accompanied by working alongside specialists in accountancy, audit, taxation and financial advisory.
Some of your day to day duties would include:  Bookkeeping; VAT return preparations; Statutory accounts preparation for Sole Traders, Partnerships & Limited companies; Corporation tax return preparation; Preparation of management accounts; Audit; Preparation of returns to HMRC to report taxable benefits; Preparation of personal tax returns.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals who have a keen interest in accounting and finance with the drive to learn whilst working in a career focused role.  If you’re looking to join us as a trainee then no experience is needed as we provide full training and support – Although any practical experience you do have is great!


Strong candidates will have the following skills: Ability to work individually and as part of a team; Strong mental arithmetic; Good verbal & written communication skills; Ability to prioritise workload in order to meet internal and external deadlines; Computer literate.

The most important characteristic we look for is the desire to learn and develop.

Current Positions Available

Business Services Group - Client Relationship Manager

Reporting directly to department managers and directors. The Client Relationship Managers are integral to the accounts department, and are responsible for completing the work required by clients including, but not limited to, the preparation of accounts, VAT returns, tax returns for Limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.

Payroll Manager

The main task for the Payroll Manager will be to manage the day-to-day activities of our payroll department that presently has three staff members to ensure that the team’s payrolls are produced accurately and on time.  This is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious growing firm of independent accountants on the South Coast of England in a job in which you will be encouraged to define and shape your own role.
