Child Benefit Changes from April 2026
The rate of Child Benefit from 6 April 2026 will increase to £27.05 per week for the first child and £17.90 per week for each additional child.
For the 2025/26 tax year and onwards, Child Benefit is gradually withdrawn through the High Income Child Benefit Charge where an individual’s adjusted net income falls between £60,000 and £80,000.
As a result, it may now be worthwhile claiming Child Benefit, depending on your circumstances, even if you have not previously been eligible to retain the full amount.
Child Benefit claims can only be backdated by up to three months. If these changes mean you are now entitled to receive some or all of the benefit, you should consider making a claim as soon as possible.
